Mother's Love

 

 

The feel of a soft fleece blanket, fresh from the dryer

The gentle touch of a rose petal on your skin

The light fragrance of morning dew in early summer

The beauty of a Christmas tree beautifully trimmed on a quiet Christmas Eve

and the joy of Christmas morning to a child

The peaceful quiet of a first snowfall

The first spring flower peaking from under the snow

The feeling of no emptiness in your heart,

no hunger in your belly and

no worrying thoughts in your mind.

My Mother loved me too much, if there is such a thing. She adored me and gave me unending love. The type of love that one feels in the core of their being, knowing it will never be taken away. She looked at me as if I was the most beautiful thing her eyes had ever beheld and she held my hand with such gentleness and love that you could feel her love pour into you. She was always happy for my successes and felt my pain as her own and somehow made it feel better for doing so. She forgave my weaknesses and helped me turn them into my better qualities. She was my best friend, my true friend and she will live in my soul forever.

 

I was her daughter, her friend and her caretaker many many years. Through too many illnesses to count, too painful to remember, I am ashamed to say that I did not always have the grace she carried for me at all times. Impatience of youth and my own life’s journey caused me often to be remiss in my duties as a daughter or friend, though I would like to think I did the best I could. But it never mattered to her, she saw me as perfect each time.

 

Her love is the closest I believe I will ever be to feeling Divine love in this lifetime. It never ceased and constantly overflowed. In my quest for God all these years, he was  all along right by my side looking at me through my mother’s eyes.

 

So grateful for her life, I love because of her.
